Here is the decision that Tory and I have made regarding these products. This will apply to all 2012 Derby Icon events. For those that posted on this topic, We had NO rule about these protectors. This is a response to the drivers that gave us meaningful input and a collaboration from other promoters.
Transmission protectors
They may attach to the transmission bell housing or mid plate
They may not rise more than 1 inch above the highest point of the bell housing, including the attachment point
They may be no wider than the transmission at the top, way less than 12" for sure
They may not be a continuous plate from distributor protector down
They may not attach or brace to the cross member, frame, or any part of the cage components
They may be fabricated of tubing or round stock of no greater OD than 3/4
If flat material is used, it can be no thicker than 3/8. These components may not be used in tandem to create a material thicker than either of these measurements.
The protector may attach to the tails shaft or shifter bracket
Trans blanket is recommended.
We do not endorse or recommend any particular model, in fact we encourage homemade derby products. But if the judges determine that this brace re-enforces the car in any way, you will be required to make relief cuts in your tranny tunnel, we will not require you to remove it completely for safety reasons.
Transmission blankets are recommended
Even with the above rules, keep this possibility in mind when installing your drive train.
The protector must be conformed to the shape of the transmission. It may NOT be suspended above the trans so that it comes in contact with the floorboards. Officials decision is final
